Schoolwork: Collage Project

Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Collage Illustration Kingston University
This was the final project under the Power Of 3 brief - and I can't pretend I'm not glad it's over - the number 3 is not my favourite theme upon which to base work. Collage however, has probably been my favourite of three rotations. I chose to look at the idea of 3 Meals A Day and created little 'food characters' which I intended to animate. However, we have an enormous deadline looming (it's tomorrow! Argh! But I'm nearly done - yay!) and that took priority for me, so I had very little time to spend on this project. Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Collage Illustration Kingston University Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Collage Illustration Kingston University Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Collage Illustration Kingston University
So instead of animating the characters, I photographed them in my kitchen. I'm pleased with the outcomes, and the crit (which was yesterday) went better than I expected. I'm definitely going to develop this idea over the Easter Break - if it ever arrives!

Drawings: People Looking At Maps

These are two of my favourite drawings / collages from this term's self directed work - in an effort to capture the atmosphere at the V&A, I sat for a while in front of one of the large maps in the foyer, drawing people who approached it on sheets of tracing paper, that I later overlaid onto sheets torn from the map of the museum. This is an idea I rather like, simple and effective. I think I'm definitely going to try similar approaches with different locations and tourist attractions.

Film Clip: Laura Veirs 'July Flame' Music Video

This. This is the sort of animation I want to make. It's one of the most beautiful things I've seen in a long while and it makes me excited to be working on a collage project this week.

School Work: Semester Two Self Directed and Location Drawings

Happy Daisy Drawings Art School
Today I wanted to share some of the drawings I've been making, during my second semester of art school. These were all made at either the V&A or the Grant Museum of Zoology.

Fine liner drawings are still my favourite.

Currently working on: University Book Project

Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Illustration Kingston University Book Project
We're working on a book project at university at the moment, creating a bound book and a pdf around the theme of collections and archives. I'm looking at wool (obviously) and knitwear. These are a few scans from a little mock up I made of an initial idea, full of drawings and black and white photographs and photocopied ephemera.

The project is a challenge, but I'm enjoying it so far. Two weeks till deadline day!

35mm: Fisheye Photographs

I love 35mm photography. Nothing beats that moment when you open up an envelope of fresh prints, and get a surprise. Digital just doesn't cut it sometimes. Here are a mixture of photographs of my town, some from a little gathering we had in our new flat before Christmas and some from back in June last year.

The best part of our photography project (none of which these images are from), is being reminded how amazing film is. Even if I spent a small fortune on film processing...

Film Clip: Sudafed Advert*

It's a widely known fact that I am a little obsessed with knitting and this advert appeals to my yarn collecting self on several levels! I think more companies need to embrace a 'home spun' do-it-yourself attitude to their advertising. I'd like to try animating with knitting, I think it would appeal to me more than animating with drawing...
