Location Drawing: The Press Room Cafe

The Press Room is my favourite cafe, located tantalisingly close to my flat and has such beautiful decor, I spent an afternoon last week drinking smoothies and drawing. Drawings: People Looking At Maps

Into The Treasure Box Sewing V And A Museum Drawing Maps People Looking At Maps Amy Edwards Green Kingston University Illustration
These are two of my favourite drawings / collages from this term's self directed work - in an effort to capture the atmosphere at the V&A, I sat for a while in front of one of the large maps in the foyer, drawing people who approached it on sheets of tracing paper, that I later overlaid onto sheets torn from the map of the museum. This is an idea I rather like, simple and effective. I think I'm definitely going to try similar approaches with different locations and tourist attractions.

School Work: Semester Two Self Directed and Location Drawings

Happy Daisy Drawings Art School
Today I wanted to share some of the drawings I've been making, during my second semester of art school. These were all made at either the V&A or the Grant Museum of Zoology.

Currently working on: University Book Project

Into The Treasure Box Amy Edwards Green Illustration Kingston University Book Project
We're working on a book project at university at the moment, creating a bound book and a pdf around the theme of collections and archives. I'm looking at wool (obviously) and knitwear. These are a few scans from a little mock up I made of an initial idea, full of drawings and black and white photographs and photocopied ephemera.

The project is a challenge, but I'm enjoying it so far. Two weeks till deadline day!

New York Magic

These are a selection of images from a 3 day project I worked on in school, a couple of weeks back. The project was called 'Ideas Generation' and we had to combine two themes to create an idea that we would develop and make three illustrations based on. The two themes were 'New York' and 'Magic'. I got quite into the idea of consumerist vision of New York eating away at it's inhabitants.

A Drawing Tour

Drawing Tour Surbiton Amy Edwards Green Into The treasure box illustration Kingston uni
This summer I have moved to a whole new town, which may not sound like a big deal, but prior to this I've lived in the same house, on the same appalling bus route for twenty years. So even if I'm just in another bit of zone 6, it's pretty exciting to me. I thought I'd showcase my new area as I discover it, with a little drawing tour.

Pictured here are some of the drawings I've done so far - you can see more on my flickr.
I think my favourites are the watercolour and fine liner combinations - I've been doing a lot of drawing without lifting the pen from the page and it's really satisfying.

Drawing at the V&A

Into the Treasure Box V&A Drawing Illustration Amy Edwards Green
These are some drawings I made earlier in the summer, on a visit to the V&A. I am a bit of a slave to the fine liner, it's a bad habit I know, but comfort zone is so comfy! haha. I've been reliably informed that university will kick me right out of this habit! Into the Treasure Box V&A Drawing Illustration Amy Edwards Green
